The GCX is basically a programmable audio switching system controlled from the floor. Voodoo Lab (before the corporate folks started popping up in parentheses) made this thing for players who want to stomp once and have their entire pedal/amp/effects world rearrange itself like a teleporter.

Unlike a simple loop switcher, the GCX is an audio routing hub — send any input to any output, in any combination, on the fly.

Core Features

  • Foot-switchable presets: Assign presets that recall complex routing configurations with one stomp. Want Amp A + Pedal 3 one moment, then Amp B + Pedal 5 the next? Done.

  • Multiple ins/outs: Typically 8 outputs plus a few inputs — enough to feed amps, effects chains, recording rigs, tuner loops, whatever.

  • True audio switching: It’s not just bypass-in/bypass-out; it’s actually routing the signal path where you want it.

  • MIDI control: You can hook this up to MIDI gear and have other units respond when you change presets.

  • Buffered switching: Keeps your signal strong, especially when long cable runs are involved.

Why It Matters

If you’ve ever found yourself on stage wishing a single stomp could:

  • Kick in your overdrive into the parallel effects chain…

  • Switch from amp A to amp B…

  • Drop out a noise gate and bring in a slap delay…

  • Route your DI differently for clean vs dirty tones…

…then the GCX is the kind of box that makes you wonder how you ever lived without it.

It doesn’t just bypass pedals — it rearranges your entire signal flow under foot command.

How Players Use It

  • Multi-amp setups: One switch takes you from crunchy to clean without cable juggling.

  • Studio integration: Route tracks or monitor feeds without unplugging.

  • Complex rigs: Combine and reorder pedals into different chains depending on song sections.

  • Preset patterns: Store favourite routings for gigs.

What It Doesn’t Do (Because It Ain’t Magick)

  • It’s not a preamp or tone processor — it doesn’t add colour, just organisation.

  • There’s no onboard effects engine — the GCX is a traffic controller, not a sound maker.

  • You still need power supplies and good cables — the GCX doesn’t eliminate those demands.
