Mozztronics | JD-2 Thunder Drive Pedal
Want something a bit different to the diode clipping overdrives. The Mozztronics JD-2 Thunder Drive is the answer. The JFET is a type of transistor that operates in a similar way to a vacuum tube
This is the Big Brother to the JD-1 jfet drive pedal.
We use multiple JFET transistors to accurately simulate an entire low wattage amp. There are no diodes in the audio signal path, and no diode clipping in this unit, just nice JFET compressive dirt and overdrive.
We also included a 3 band EQ to dial in your tone. The mids have sweepable frequency to its easy to nail those great mids, or enhance feedback squeaks and squeals.
But that’s not all, we included a cabsim circuit, able to be switched in & out with the CAB switch.
GAIN controls the amount of gain from the first stage, VOL adjusts the overall volume out of the pedal, BASS is a shelving eq control, MID is a midrange eq control, FREQ adjusts the midrange frequency, TREble is a shelving eq control, and CAB turns the inbuilt cabsim on or off (switch down is cabsim active).
I especially like using a bit of treble boost, and setting the GAIN so when you play softly you get a nice clean jangly sound, but when you dig in a bit the compressive JFET dirt kicks in.
The JD-2 Thunder Drive pedal can also be used as an always on pedal. Set the gain lowish and turn the output volume up to add a touch of sparkle. Many people like the “echopl*x” for the way its preamp sounds, and the JD-2 Thunder Drive pedal can do the same job in many applications.
It can also be used as a booster as there is a lot of output level available. Set the gain low to keep it clean and turn the output volume up to the desired boost level. If you want massive boost, the BB-1 Big Boost is the go to pedal with 27dB of gain.
Mozztronics uses the industry standard Boss style 2.1mm center negative 9V DC socket for the power supply connection.
