Mozztronics | AP-1 Acoustic Preamp DI
This is my Acoustic Preamp & DI, the AP-1
But i have a preamp already built into my acoustic guitar you say…
Yes but do you have a DI, do you have a Low Pass Filter to reduce the volume when you hit the soundboard, do you have 4 band eq tailored precisely for an acoustic guitar, do you have all of this in one convenient pedal ?
This pedal is made for Acoustic Guitars fitted with a piezo pickup. This unit is 100% analogue in the signal path. No digital simulations here. The RED LED indicates the effect is ON.
GAIN adjusts the input volume of the preamp, VOL is the master volume control.
We included a 4 band EQ to perfectly dial in the sound of your acoustic guitar.
BASS 50Hz. LO MID 350Hz, HI MID 4kHz, TREBLE 15kHz
The HPF switch is a HIGH PASS FILTER at 100Hz to reduce the sound of hitting the soundboard while playing.
There is a built in DI with an earth LIFT switch. The DI signal comes from the ¼” output of the pedal and both are controlled by the footswitch.
We included an internal switch which allows you to set bypass mode to either BYPASS or MUTE. When this switch is set to MUTE you can mute both the XLR out and 1/4″ out when you are not playing.
Start with all EQ controls centred and GAIN at maximum, then turn GAIN down until there is no clipping. Set the output VOLume for the desired output level. This is a clean pedal with lots of headroom, but if you have a very high output guitar, it may be possible to get a touch of grit in your sound by turning up the GAIN to maximum and turning the output VOLume down. Adjust EQ to taste, and switch in the HPF to reduce the sound from hitting the guitar soundboard if required. Treble is set intentionally high, so as to precisely be able to adjust the ultra high “sizzle” in an acoustic guitar.
Johnny G is from the fantastic band 19twenty. Johnny plays upright bass and said of the AP1
“Ive been using it all week and i LOVE it. Its PERFECT all around, Great for magnetic pickups as well as piezo, This DI is ANY bassists dream”
Wow, thanks Johnny.
While the eq centre frequencies are tailored for acoustic guitar, they work exceedingly well for slappy rockabilly upright bass.
Mozztronics uses the industry standard Boss style 2.1mm center negative 9V DC socket for the power supply connection.
