The Guild M-85 is a seriously cool short-scale bass from Guild’s Newark St. Collection, bringing back one of the company’s more unusual designs from the late 1960s.

Made in Korea, this reissue features a compact semi-hollow/chambered body with an arched laminated spruce top, maple back and sides, mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. The 30.75" short scale makes it incredibly comfortable to play, with a soft feel under the fingers and plenty of vintage character.

At the heart of the M-85 is a single Guild BS-1 BiSonic-style pickup, delivering a big, warm and woody bass sound with plenty of punch and definition. It has that great old-school short-scale response — thick down low without becoming muddy, and with enough bite to sit nicely in a band mix.

The distinctive double-cutaway body, classic Guild headstock and beautifully simple control layout give the M-85 a look that stands well apart from the usual Fender-style basses.

A fantastic little bass for soul, rock, blues, indie or anyone chasing a warm vintage sound. Comfortable, characterful and just a little bit weird — exactly the sort of bass we like.
